Dante was successful to make his enemies fall. In a few days, in the newspaper contained
articles which about a terrible accusation Fernand de Morcerf. The article said
that Fernand betrayed the Greek leader,
Ali Pasha. The article was an anonymous writer and no one knew who made that
article. Fernand called to court to give
explanation about that. He told how he had bravely tried to defend Ali Pasha
against the Turks. Then the committee called a witness , Haydee. She cried and
said that Fernand was the man who betrayed her father. The committee judged
culpable of the deed. Albert was angry when he heard this news. Albert knew
that Danlars wrote to Greece for information at the request of the Count of
Monte Cristo. Then, he sent note to Dantes. The note about he was challenging Dante to a duel the following morning. Mercedes knew about that and she went to
see Dantes. She said to Dantes that did not kill her son. Dantes did not want to kill her son, he just want revenge against Fernand but Albert had challenged
him to a duel. And Dantes showed her the latter that Danglars had written and
Fernand had mailed. When Mercedes read the letter she cried and begging Dante’s
forgiveness. Mercedes asked Dantes to did
not kill her son, she did not want to see the man she loved , would become the murderer of
her son. Dantes promised Mercedes that he did not kill
her son. In the morning, Dantes and
Albert met to duel in the woods. Albert asked Dantes to accept his apology, he
had learned of the terrible things his father did to Dantes. Fernand grew angry
when he saw Dantes because he accused Dantes of telling lies about him . Then, Fernand saw Mercedes and Albert were getting
into a carriage but they did not see him. Fernand felt this world was crasing
down around him when he heard Mercedes
said that this home was no longer their home and they would use her father’s
name, Herrera. Then, Fernand took his gun and fired one shot, he was dead. Dantes
was at Danglar’s house for the wedding of Danglar’s daughter Eugenie and Andrea
Cavalcanti. Villefort not yet arrived because Dantes had sent Villefort Caderousse’s
note about Cavalcanti. Suddenly a policeman entered the salon to caught
Benedetto. Then Benedetto saw the
policeman, he moved closer to the door and ran away. But the police found him
later and arrested him. Dantes plan to make Danglars fall was proceeding
smoothly and perfectly. And now the Danglars bank’s cash reserves were running
low. Danglars made plans to flee the country and would take money was left in
the bank. Danglar’s life was falling apart. Now, villefort was the only one of
Dante’s enemies. He visited Villefort’s house to met Valentine. Dantes gave her a
small pil and told her it just make her asleep, and would no longer be in
danger. Then, Valentine swallowed the pill and felt into a deep sleep. Everyone thought that she died, and the doctor
said she was died. They were crushed, when they heard the news. After that, the doctor began to test the
liquid in Valentine’s glass. When Villefort
was busy preparing for Benedetto’s investigation, Noirtier told him that the
murders in his house was Villefort’s wife, Heloise. He shocked with the news
and he accuse his wife that killed his daughter with poison. Heloise tried to explain that she was not
guilty. But Villefort did not believe her and he went to the court to demand
the death penalty for a murderer.
In the courtroom, Benedetto was on
trial. When the police interrogated him about his name, he said that he had
many names but he just have one father, named Villefort. He told to the police
that his father tried to burry him alive, and he lived a life of crime. That
was the reason he became a murderer. Villefort startled when he heard someone
in the courtroom said that he believe that Villefort have now been punished
enough for his evil deeds. Villefort supposed that voice was the Count of Monte
Cristo. When he looked again, he remembered that was Edmond Dantes. Dantes was success
to revenge all his enemies. And for the
first, he began to wonder if he had gone too far in carrying out his revenge.
