OLIVER TWIST : Rose and Harry

Rose became very ill when summer came. She had lost her beauty, her face became red and she was once more deathly pale. One night, Rose had grown much worse. The village doctor said that it would be a miracle if she recovers. Dr. Losberno also said that it’s hard to Rose and very little hope. In the morning, Oliver went to the old church and he was prayed for Rose. When Oliver returned to the cottage, the doctor said that she would wake up and she looked great and happiness spread over his face. That night, Mrs. Maylie’s son arrived, Harry Maylie, a handsome young man of about 25. His meeting with his mother was full of warm emotion on both sides. His mother said that he was not to marry Rose, he might regret it someday because he didn’t know who her parents were. But Harry didn’t care, his heart was set on Rose as firmly as ever the heart of a man was set on a woman. When Rose was well enough, Harry want to see her. Harry said to Rose that for years he loved her and he was so afraid when he heard if she might die. But Rose said to Harry that he must forget her, not as a friend but as someone to love. If not for dear Mrs. Maylie, who has raised Rose as if she were Mrs. Maylie own child, she would be alone in this world. Rose would be like a great stone around her neck. She gave him her hand to kiss goodbye. But he gently placed one kiss on her forehead and hurried from her room.
